Easy to make, environmentally friendly festive decorations!

Back in the 1860s this is how people decorated their homes and trees for Christmas. Every December the Globe Restaurant decks the halls in traditional decorations.

Sugar Cookies for Christmas Decorating

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp water
  • Oranges and grapefruits - sliced and dehydrated - Cook at 225F for 45 mins, flip and 45 mins more until dried
  • Greenery - tie cookies and dried citrus, deck the halls!
  • Pine cones

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350F
  2. Cream together shortening and sugar
  3. Add egg
  4. Add dry ingredients
  5. Slowly add water
  6. Chill dough for 30 minutes
  7. Roll out 1/4" thick
  8. Cut with favourite stars or trees
  9. Bake at 350F for 8 minutes
  10. Poke hole at top with straw when just out of oven
  11. When cool, thread with jute or wool
