Amy Shackleton: Playing with Fire & Ice
November 4, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 11:00 am on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until December 18, 2021

Inspired by her travels Amy Shackleton’s work explores the conflicting relationships between humanity and the environment. She blends cities with nature to depict our uncertain future – be it utopian or apocalyptic. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and hitting closer to home. Forests are burning, lands are flooding and glaciers are melting. In this series Shackleton exposes the present-day effects of climate change across Canada. Shackleton’s inventive painting process has engaged over 15 million viewers online. Rather than paintbrushes she uses squeeze bottles and gravity as her primary tools for creation. Liquid paint is dripped, poured and layered as the canvas is rotated to navigate. Architectural aspects of her work are calculated and controlled while natural elements embody the spontaneous, liquid impulse.
