Maintaining Healthy Self-Image During Illness

January 12 @ 7:00 pm

Free

Self-image refers to the ideas we have about our own abilities, appearance and personality. In this way illness can be considered a threat to our self-image. With illness we may experience changes in our appearance and feel a loss of control over our bodies. We may experience changes to the roles we play in our lives. We may not be able to do things we could have done before becoming sick, such as working or engaging in beloved hobbies and activities. We may feel less like ourselves when we are struggling with physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual pain. With so many stressors it is easy to feel consumed by your illness. And for some people their illness begins to define them.

Remember, you are so much more than your illness! Join us for an interactive discussion on the relationship between illness and self-image. Participants will gain a richer understanding of how illness can impact self-image and learn strategies to buffer the negative impact of illness on self-image.
