Peter Powning: A Retrospective
July 2 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 10:00 am, repeating until October 30, 2022

This retrospective exhibition will survey the practice and work of Canadian sculptor and fine craft artist Peter Powning from his early production pottery through a remarkable 50-year career trajectory that includes the exploration of a wide diversity of forms and materials, such as glass, clay, cast bronze, stone and steel. An alchemist of sorts, Powning creates new sculptural forms that seem to stand outside both time and place. Powning has spent a lifetime pursuing his art, and has distinguished himself as one of Canada’s most accomplished and prominent visual artists. He is the recipient of the Saidye Bronfman Award from the Canada Council for the Arts (now a Governor General’s Award for High Achievement) and has work in the collections of many major institutions throughout Canada. Through the high-calibre of his work and commitment, he holds a unique place in the larger arena of Canadian art.
Curated by John Leroux and organized by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.
This project has been made possible in part by the Government of Canada.
