This Is Brampton: Crate Clash

October 15 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$10

“A creative collision of sound where the audience is exposed to any genre of music and it’s a vibe. You could be listening to reggae mixed with salsa and have some retro sprinkled in. Different styles being mixed with various song selections just to win the crowd.”

#CrateClash is a DJ battle that allows various DJs or DJ crews to participate in the 70-year-old tradition with origins in Jamaica. The SoundClash came about in the 1950s in Jamaica when the country was experiencing a void in live music performances. Many musicians left for the U.K. around then, and others remaining couldn’t afford nor were they permitted to participate in the higher-class parties. As a result, local sound crews held community gatherings in the streets and lawns or inside buildings which were called “dance halls.” At these gatherings, there were no dress codes and people were encouraged to express themselves through dance and fashion. Big speakers, selectors, DJs made up a sound system and they would battle for the crowd’s attention. The SoundClash spread throughout the world and even has roots in hip-hop.
Featuring Crate Clashers DJ Miwako, DJ Dmand, DJ Young Illusions, DJ HVP, and DJ Brandon6ixx, as well as celebrity judges Tasha Rozez and Lindissimo.
