Exploring Art and History Through the Fountain Pen – Ages 16+

We’ll kick things off with a look at the relationship between humans and the written word. Along the way, we’ll explore how the fountain pen became a beloved tool, and why pen and paper still hold their own in a digital world. Participants will then be guided through a hands-on exercise using fountain pens. You’ll experiment with ink flow, line, and movement in a creative exploration of art and writing.
About the instructor: Brianna Murphy is a current University of Toronto’s Master of Information and Museum Study student. With a background in psychology, Murphy’s work examines the role of art and storytelling in effective information communication, and the ways mediums (such as the fountain pen) shape our relationships with the stories (and information) we consume.
