Heatherlea’s Chicken Pot Pie

The crust is perfect — flaky and flavourful, and the filling has just the right proportions of wonderfully moist chunks of chicken and fresh-tasting and textured vegetables.

Nomination:  Chicken Pot Pie

Where it’s served:  Heatherlea Farm Market

Nominated by:  Gail Gordon Oliver

Why you think it’s worthy of “Best Bite” designation:

Pat McArthur, co-owner with daughter-in-law Melinda of Heatherlea Farm Market, makes wonderful pies. Her chicken pot pie, which she sells in the retail shop on Heatherlea Farm in Caledon, is sold frozen and is consistently amazing.

The crust is perfect — flaky and flavourful, and the filling has just the right proportions of wonderfully moist chunks of chicken and fresh-tasting and textured vegetables. The sauce is smooth and beautifully seasoned and is not gloppy like so many other chicken pot pies tend to be; somehow Pat manages to get her sauce to stay slightly liquid and velvety.

Pat’s rhubarb pie is also wonderful, as is her pumpkin pie, the only pumpkin pie I’ve ever tried that I actually liked!
